Potential drug interactions

Cannabinoids are so safe for dogs that no LD50 has been found!  However, theoretically, there is potential of competitive inhibition of clearance related to the following drugs which rely upon liver CYP450 mechanisms for their pharmacokinetics.  Careful dose monitoring should be used when introducing cannabinoids to pets who regularly take the following medications:

  • Steroids
  • HMG CoA reductase inhibitors
  • Calcium channel blockers
  • Antihistamines
  • Prokinetics
  • HIV antivirals
  • Immune modulators
  • Benzodiazepines
  • Antiarrythmics
  • Antibiotics
  • Anesthetics
  • Antipsychotics
  • Antidepressants
  • Anti-epileptics
  • Beta blockers
  • PPIs
  • NSAIDs
  • Angiotension II blockers
  • Oral hypoglycemic agents
  • Sulfonylureas
